New Day Hope Handbag Story

I like Bargello and wanted to do something with it. I started with the brown line and everything progressed from there. The colors were originally only the brown, green, and two blues. One of the guys, who took a glance at the Bargello in the early stage, suggested it reminded him of some sort of Indian pattern. That insight inspired me to add the red and yellow colors and took the needlepoint from OK to bold.

The saying is an inspirational saying from my mother-in-law, Dorothy Riley. If you see her around Centerville, Iowa, be sure to express your thanks, too, for such a neat addition to the handbag. The handbag’s name comes from the saying.

I feel upbeat when I carry the handbag and have lots of comments on it. My husband and I have

visited several of the music halls of fame and museums over the years and it reminds me of the glitzy outfits exhibited in several of them. It started when we were returning from visiting with some old family friends in the town when I grew up, Inverness, Mississippi, and stopped in the Clarksdale’s Delta Blues Museum. Those that followed included:  Nashville’s Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum,  Memphis Rock ‘n’ Soul Museum, Cleveland’s The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum,  Owensboro’s International Bluegrass Music Museum, and of course Elvis Presley‘s Memphis attractions.  My daughter says, with its red satin lining, it reminds her of the Red Hat Society ladies.
